THE HOLY ROSARY
The Rosary of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Where does the word come from? It comes from a Latin word Rosaria, which means a crown of roses or a garden of roses. It grew up in the second millennium of Christianity, particularly in Western Christianity around the 14th century. It's attributed to Saint Dominic.
The Rosary is a sequence of prayers. St John Paul II said, it's a compendium of the Gospel and it's intended to help us grow in our faith as we come to understand more and more about the life, the death, the resurrection and the Ascension of Jesus Christ, and about the Church and who we are in the Lord.
That's why the way to view the Rosary is as a time of meditation. We meditate on the great mysteries of the faith.
Just how do you pray this Rosary? First, the Rosary of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, is not the first rosary. In fact, the rosary goes back into the first centuries of the Church. The early disciples took seriously Paul's admonition to pray without ceasing, and so they looked for ways to constantly keep the presence of God in their lives.
With the first rosary, the monks of the early church had a corded band. They would simply say the name of Jesus over and over and over again. "Lord Jesus, son of God have mercy on me."
But this Rosary asks Our Lady to pray for us, and it has deep historic roots in Christianity, dating back to the early centuries of the Church. The Church has always believed in the communion of saints. What that means is that those who are marked with the sign of faith and go home to the Lord are still joined to us. They pray for us; they pray with us. As the author of the Letter of the Hebrew said, "They're that great cloud of witnesses."
And so, the early Christians always asked for Our Lady's intercession, and now we're going to talk about the form of prayer that does that so beautifully.

You did not give in to feelings of anger or resentment. Intead, you kept a joyful attitude to the very end. It is said that you even made a joke about to you executioner before he beheaded you.

PRAYER TO JESUS IN THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT
(All) I place myself in the presence of Him, in whose Incarnate Presence I am before I place myself there. I adore Thee, O my Saviour, present here as God and man, in soul and body, in true flesh and blood. I acknowledge and confess that I kneel before that Sacred Humanity, which was conceived in Mary’s womb, and lay in Mary’s bosom; which grew up to man’s estate, and by the Sea of Galilee called the Twelve, wrought miracles, and spoke words of wisdom and peace; which in due season hung on the cross, lay in the tomb, rose from the dead and now reigns in heaven. I praise, and bless, and give myself wholly to Him, who is the true Bread of my soul and my everlasting joy. Amen

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Praise be to Thee, O Lord, King of eternal glory.
(On the ‘Our Father’ beads):
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Thy Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb without blemish or spot,
in reparation for my sins and for the sins of Thy priests.
(On the ‘Hail Mary’ beads):
By Thy Precious Blood, O Jesus,
purify and sanctify Thy priests.
(In place of the ‘Glory be to the Father’):
O Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named,
have mercy on all Thy priests, and wash them in the Blood of the Lamb.
Let Us Pray
(All) O Virgin Mary, my Mother of Perpetual Help, my hands are in thy hands, and my heart is in thy heart, and this forever. O sweet Virgin Mary, I am thy child. ST JOHN PAUL II’S PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
(All) O loving and gracious God, Father of all, You bless Your people in every time and season and provide for their needs through Your providential care. Your Church is continually in need of priests, sisters and brothers to offer themselves in the service of the gospel by lives of dedicated love. Open the hearts of Your sons and daughters to listen to Your call in their lives. Give them the gift of understanding to discern Your invitation to serve You and Your Church. Give them the gift of courage to follow Your call. PRAYER FOR PRIESTS TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER MARY
(All) Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of priests, Accept this title which we bestow on you to celebrate your motherhood and to contemplate with you the priesthood of your Son and of your sons, O holy Mother of God. Mother of Christ, to the Messiah Priest you gave a body of flesh through the anointing of the Holy Spirit for the salvation of the poor and the contrite of heart; guard priests in your heart and in the Church, O Mother of the Saviour. Mother of Faith, you accompanied to the Temple the Son of Man, the fulfillment of the promises given to the fathers; give to the Father for his glory the priests of your Son, O Ark of the Covenant. Mother of the Church, with the disciples in the Upper Room you prayed to the Holy Spirit for the new People and their shepherds; obtain for the Order of Presbyters a fullness of gifts, O Queen of the Apostles.
Mother of Jesus Christ, you were with Him at the beginning of His life and of His mission, you sought the Master among the crowd, you stood beside Him when he was lifted up from the earth consumed as the one eternal sacrifice, and you had John close by you, your son; accept from the beginning those who have been called, protect their growth, accompany your sons in their life and in their ministry, O Mother of Priests. FRIDAYS
PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
“The Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are all prayers that can be prayed at any time for the Holy Souls as we recall the words of Saint Monica on her death bed “One thing only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”
Leader: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen
Leader: We offer this prayer for the Holy Souls in purgatory, asking for God’s mercy upon them, so that they may enjoy eternal salvation in heaven. We bring before you, O Merciful God, all the dead, especially (pause…… and mention known names).
Examination of Conscience (Pause….)
Act of Contrition
(All) O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offended you, my God, who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more, to do penance and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
DIVINE MERCY ROSARY
Opening Prayer
(All) You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O fount of life, unfathomable Divine Mercy envelope the whole world and empty yourself out upon us.
O blood and water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in you. (3times)
One ‘Our Father’, ‘Hail Mary’ and ‘Creed’
(On the large beads pray):
(All) Eternal Father I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
On the ten small beads (five decades):
For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.
(At the conclusion of the five decades pray):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have Mercy on us and on the whole world. (3 times)
Let us Pray:
(All) Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.
Jesus, I trust in You (3 Times)
THE EIGHT DAY PRAYER – DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
(Leader) “Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.”
(All) Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

Through Your scourging,
O Lord, deliver them.
Through Your crowning with thorns,
O Lord, deliver them.
Through Your carrying of the cross,
O Lord, deliver them.
Through Your most cruel death,
O Lord, deliver them.
Through Your five most holy wounds,
O Lord, deliver them.
In the day of judgment,
We sinners, beseech You, hear us.
You Who forgave Magdalen,
and did grant the prayer of the thief,
we beseech Thee, hear us.
That You would be pleased to deliver the souls of our parents, relations, friends, and benefactors, from the pains of hell,
we beseech Thee, hear us.
That You would be pleased to have mercy on those of whom no special remembrance is made on earth,
we beseech Thee, hear us.
That You would be pleased to grant them all
the pardon and remission of their sins,
we beseech Thee, hear us.
That You would be pleased to receive them
into the company of the blessed,
we beseech You, hear us.
King of lawful majesty,
we beseech You, hear us.
Son of God,
we beseech You, hear us.
Lamb of God,
who takes away the sins of the world,
grant unto them eternal rest.
Lamb of God,
who takes away the sins of the world,
grant unto them eternal rest.
Lamb of God,
who takes away the sins of the world,
grant unto them rest everlasting.
Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.
Lord, have mercy,
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy,
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy,
Lord, have mercy.
From the gate of hell,
deliver their souls, O Lord.
O Lord, hear my prayer.
And let my cry come unto You.
Let us Pray
(All) O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Your servants departed the remission of all their sins; that, by pious supplications, they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired. Grant this, O God, Who lives and reigns for ever and ever, Amen.

De Profundis - Psalm 130
Response - words in bold
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord,
Lord hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleading.
If you, O Lord should mark our guilt,
Lord, who would survive?
But with you is found forgiveness:
for this we revere you.
My soul is waiting for the Lord,
I count on his word.
My soul is longing for the Lord
more than watchman for daybreak.
Let the watchman count on daybreak
and Israel on the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy
and fullness of redemption;
Israel indeed he will redeem
from all its iniquity.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertrude for the Holy Souls
(All) Eternal Father, I offer you the Most Precious Blood of your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
Prayer for the Intercession of St. Nicholas of Tolentino
(All) St. Nicholas, you were attentive to the pleas of many needy souls and through your prayers and penance you hastened their enjoyment of the vision of God. Look with compassion on our beloved deceased, and obtain for them by your prayers the full forgiveness of their sins so that they may experience the happiness and peace of the Father’s Presence.
Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, pray for us. (Repeat 3 times)
Jesus and Mary, I love you, save souls
Prayer to Our Lady of Montligeon
(All) Our Lady of Deliverance, have mercy on all our departed loved ones, especially those who are most in need of the Lord's mercy. Intercede for those who have gone before us, and may the purifying love
of God lead them to full deliverance. May our prayer, united with the prayer of the whole Church, obtain for them joy beyond all their desires, and bring consolation and relief to our loved ones in their suffering and distress. Mother of the Church, help us, pilgrims on earth, to be better in living each day of our journey towards the Resurrection. Heal the wounds of heart and soul. Help us to become witnesses of the Unseen God, seeking already what the eye cannot see. Grant us the grace to become apostles of hope, like those who keep vigil awaiting the dawn. Refuge of sinners and Queen of all Saints, gather us all, one day, in our Father's House, for the eternal Easter, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Our Lady of Montligeon, pray for the souls in Purgatory.
(All) We fly to your patronage, O holy Mother of God, despise not our petitions, in our necessities but deliver us from all dangers, O ever glorious and blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.
Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.
May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
St. Gemma Galgani, saintly Virgin of Lucca,
pray for us and intercede for those departed ones.
Leader: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.
“Though the Holy Souls cannot merit for themselves, they can obtain for us great graces. They are not, formally speaking, intercessors as the saints are but, through the sweet providence of God, they can obtain for us outstanding favours and deliver us from evils, sickness and dangers of every kind.” - St. Alphonsus Ligouri

St. Gemma Galgani (the Flower of Lucca)
and the Souls in Purgatory
Maria Gemma Umberta Pia Galgani born 12th March 1878, died 11th April (Holy Saturday) 1903 aged 25 St. Gemma’s zeal for the Holy Souls in Purgatory was extraordinary. She would regularly offer fervent prayers united with her own bodily sufferings for all of the souls in Purgatory and frequently offer prayers for a particular named soul. The Lord desires to bring all Holy Souls to Himself and would move His servant Gemma in different ways to atone for the sins of the souls. Gemma said that “The Angel has told me that this evening Jesus will let me suffer a little more for a soul in Purgatory, that is for two hours beginning at nine o’clock” A Passionist Nun by the name of Mary Teresa of the Infant Jesus had died in the Convent at Corneto (now called Tarquinia), Italy. In death her soul full of sorrow appeared to Gemma imploring help as she was undergoing anguish in Purgatory. From that moment Gemma prayed with tears and petitions to Our Lord in the words “Jesus, take Mary Teresa to Paradise without delay. She is a soul most dear to You. Let me suffer much for her, I want her to be in heaven. Gemma then affirms in her own diary that dressed in white Mother Maria of the Infant Jesus visited her to thank her because eternal happiness was beckoning but asked for continued prayers. After sixteen days her soul was released. Gemma then describes how it seemed that the Blessed Mother herself came to tell that the hour was approaching. Then almost immediately how Mary Teresa dressed as a Passionist seemed to come towards her accompanied by her Guardian Angel and Jesus Himself. Smiling now she came close to Gemma and said “I am truly happy, and I go to enjoy my Jesus forever”. And during the early hours of the morning well before dawn after a final farewell how Mary Teresa with Jesus and her Guardian Angel flew to heaven.

SATURDAY
DEVOTION TO
THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
PRAYER TO JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
(All) Divine Saviour of our souls, who dwells in your Sacrament to enrich us with your grace, deign to bestow upon me your blessing, that being preserved from the misfortune of offending, I may be enabled to practice faithfully all the virtues proper to my state.
That nothing may be an obstacle to your liberality, take from my heart all that displeases you; pardon me my sins, sanctify my soul, bless me as you blessed your disciples before ascending to heaven; may this blessing change me, unite me to you, fill me with your Holy Spirit, and be an assured pledge of the final benediction which will bestow upon your elect on the last day, saying to them: Come, you blessed of my Father, possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you from the beginning of the world. Amen.
FATIMA PRAYERS: THE ANGEL’S PRAYER
(All) My God, I believe in You, I adore You, I hope in You, and I love You. I ask pardon for those who do not believe in You, do not adore You, do not hope in You, and do not love You.
My God, I believe in You, I adore You, I hope in You, and I love You. I ask pardon for those who do not believe in You, do not adore You, do not hope in You, and do not love You.
My God, I believe in You, I adore You, I hope in You, and I love You. I ask pardon for those who do not believe in You, do not adore You, do not hope in You, and do not love You. Amen.
(All) O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost I adore You profoundly and I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference, by which He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart, in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners. Amen.
O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Amen.
O my Jesus, it is for love of You, in reparation for the offences committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the conversion of poor sinners. Amen.

A Solemn Act of Consecration
to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
By Venerable Pope Pius XII
(All) Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfil the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we commend to You, all the people of our country and all the world. Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world.
O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the world, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully. We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home. Amen.

Act of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
(All) Most Holy Virgin and our beloved Mother, we listen with grief to the complaints of the Immaculate Heart, surrounded with the thorns which ungrateful men place therein at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Moved by the ardent desire of loving thee as our Mother and of promoting a true devotion to thy Immaculate Heart, we prostrate ourselves at your feet to prove the sorrow we feel for the grief that men cause thee and to atone by means of our prayers and sacrifices for the offences with which men return thy tender love. Obtain for them and for us the pardon of so many sins. A word from thee will obtain grace and forgiveness for all. Hasten, O Lady, the conversion of sinners that they may love Jesus and cease to offend God, already so much offended, and thus avoid eternal punishment. Turn your eyes of mercy towards us so that henceforth we may love God with all our hearts while on earth and enjoy Him forever in Heaven. Amen.

First Saturday Devotions
On December 10, 1925, the Most Holy Virgin appeared to Sister Lucia Santos (then a postulant of the Institute of the Dorothean Sisters at Pontevedra, Spain) and by Her side, elevated on a luminous cloud, was the Child Jesus. The Most Holy Virgin rested Her hand on her shoulder and as She did so, She showed Her Heart encircled by thorns, which She was holding in her other hand.
At the same time, the Child said: Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment and there is none to make an act of reparation to remove them. Then the Most Holy Virgin said: Look, my daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and announce in My name that I promise to assist, at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who:
(1) on the first Saturday of five consecutive months,
(2) shall confess,
(3) receive Holy Communion,
(4) recite five decades of the Rosary and
(5) keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary,
(6) with the intention of making reparation to Me.
