First Reading: (Ex 24:3-8). Moses sprinkled the altar and the people with the blood of the sacrificed animals as a sign of the unbreakable covenant between them and God.

Second Reading: (Heb 9:11-15). Jesus our great high Priest enters the heavenly tabernacle with his own blood shed on the Cross for our salvation.

Responsorial Psalm: (Ps. 115) The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord’s name.

The Gospel: (Mt 14:12-16). At mass when we share the Body and Blood of the Lord, we remember and relive the Last Supper he shared with his disciples.

The Eucharist

The Eucharist is the Church’s great prayer of thanksgiving for every gift God has given to us, from the world in which we live to the daily food that sustains us. It is also an invitation to share our bread and our lives with our brothers and sisters, especially those who are most in need.

Parish Memorial Book

Jacquie has been compiling the Memorial Book and the Parish Council commissioned Fr John and Michael Kearns to create a stand within the church, where it could be permanently positioned. If you have a family member who was part of our Parish who died in the past or recently and you would like that person to be included, please give their name to Jacquie or Fr. John, accompanied with a photograph or memorial booklet, if possible.

For those who pay tax making your weekly offering through the gift aid scheme is a very beneficial way for the Church and the Parish receives an additional 25 pence from the Government for each £1 you donate.

Parish Council

The parish Council met and among other things, created a ‘sub-committee’ to visit Our Lady of the Angels and St. Mary of the Crays, to listen to their Church amplification so that we at St Thomas More can make an informed decision about how best we can improve our own amplification system so that we can be assured that the quotation that we accept will be value for money. At present we have three quotations. Hopefully we will have more precise information for you over the next couple of weeks

Advance Notice

The Lesnes Abbey Procession of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on Sunday afternoon of June 24th at 3pm. Children who have celebrated their First Holy Communion here at St Thomas More will join with First Communicants from other parishes in the Deaneries of Bexley and Greenwich. It has been a very special day since 1970 . It takes place on the site of the ruins of an Augustinian Monastery founded in reparation for the murder of St. Thomas a Beckett in Canterbury Cathedral. It was sacked during the reign of King Henry VIII. Incidentally, the Monks were the first to try curb the flooding of the Thames River. In the woods behind the Ruins, shark’s teeth were discovered in recent times. So there must have been a natural upheaval in the not so distant past.

Guides

The Guides will be hosting a BEETLE DRIVE on the 21st June 6pm – 8pm in the church hall. This is a fun evening, the rules will be explained on the night. The evening is always lively and there are prizes available along with refreshments and a raffle. We thank you for your ongoing support.

Bexley Deanery Retreat
Friday 28th September - 30th September 2018

It has for a number of years been a very enjoyable, restful and refreshing spiritual experience for all participants. It is highly recommended. So ‘Go For It.’ Booking forms are available in the porch.

St John’s Seminary – Wonersh – Can you help?

The Seminary near Guildford (which as been involved in the formation of priests for over 125 years) is looking for some help with the cost of re-decoration and refurbishment of 30 of its bedrooms, which have received little or no upgrading for 40+ years. Many rooms have threadbare or no carpets, and curtains which are close to disintegration. Some of the beds and other furniture started life in the Junior Seminary at mark’s Cross, Sussex which closed in 1970. The Seminary operates on a very tight budget, and there are no funds available for this much needed work which would cost in the region of £2000 per room. If you can help in any way, please send a cheque made payable to St John’s Seminary to: Mgr Gerry Ewing, (Vice-Rector), St John’s Seminary, Wonersh, Guildford Surrey GU5 0QX.

New Director of Education in our Diocese

Dr Simon Hughes has been appointed as successor to Dr Anne Bamford. It is expected to take up his post in late July. Simon has many years of experience in Catholic education, having taught in Catholic primary and secondary schools. More recently he has had great experience of working in higher education, leadership development and as an Ofsted Inspector.

Nature, the Sacrament of God

In such a little tremor of the blood, the whole strong clamour of a vehement soul. Doth utter itself distinct. Earth’s crammed with Heaven. And every common bush afire with God. But only he who sees, takes off his shoes, The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries…Elizabeth Barrett Browning
