First Reading: (Deut 18: 15-20). Prophets are men and women who are sent by God to give us direction and to give us hope. We are promised this lasting support if only we are willing to listen.

Second Reading: (1 Cor. 7:32-35). Paul knows that worries about our life can often overwhelm us. They surely do not get any smaller when we have to care for a family. Out of this concern, Paul sees advantages in a celibate life.

Responsorial Psalm: (Ps. 94) O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your heart

The Gospel: (Mk 1:21-28). People experience Jesus as a man of extraordinary presence and authority. His power manifests itself in subduing forces which cut us off from the life God wants us to have.

Eucharistic Congress, Liverpool. September 2018

In preparation for this event, our Parish of St Thomas More will be hosting a 24 hour Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament as we are a part of the Deanery of Bexley. It will commence after the 10am mass and concluding just before the 9am mass on Saturday 3rd February. There are a number of ‘time slots’ still awaiting to be filled in. Do please volunteer to be part of our Parish prayer in preparation for the Eucharistic Congress in Liverpool Cathedral in September 2018. We need to have two people present at all times especially between Midnight on Friday and 6am on Saturday. Thank you.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honouring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us". During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist ... By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, The Lord draws us to Himself and gently transforms us. In its fullest essence ... Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"

Why spend time before the Blessed Sacrament?

Jesus is counting on you because the Eucharist is the centre of life. "Every member of the Church must be vigilant in seeing that the sacrament of love shall be at the centre of the life of the people of God so that through all the manifestations of worship due him shall be given back ‘love for love’ and truly become the life of our souls." (Pope John Paul II, Redeemer of Man) The specific way that Jesus asks you to love him in return is to spend one quiet hour with him in the Blessed Sacrament. "Where your treasure is, there is your heart...." "Could you not watch one hour with me?" (Mt 6:21; 26:40)

Fr John Says a big THANK YOU:

It is a bit late due to holidays etc, but I want to thank you in capitals for the Christmas cards and pressies, especially the woolie jumpers. Even if the weather takes a very cold turn I will be very well protected. In addition to the above I received from the Parish Council, a cheque for £3.791.56 being your gift through the Christmas collections. Thank you for your great generosity.
