First Reading: (Ezek 34:11-12.15-17). The promised King is one who will shepherd his people, make sure that none is lost, the wounded are bandaged, the weak made strong.

Second Reading: (1 Cor. 15:20-26.28).  Christ our King, will gather all the parts of the kingdom together in his hands at the end of time and present them to the Father. Paul echoes our own prayer today: ‘As King, Jesus claims dominion over all creation that he may present to you, his almighty Father, an eternal and universal kingdom.’

The Gospel: (Mt.25:31-46). The Lord Jesus Christ will come again in glory, as King, to judge the living and the dead; and he will call to himself all those whom the Father has blessed. Matthew in this Gospel pictures the finale of the creation, the event we are bringing to mind in this feast.

Responsorial Psalm (92): The Lord is King with majesty enrobed
