A Question

In the newsletter of Sunday, December 11th a question was posed. We can’t be other than GOD-BOUND but from where I a human being now stands how I can move towards that completeness with the whole of Creation?   For starters I must realize that it is not only us human beings that are God-Bound. The whole of creation, the cosmos itself is God-Bound. True, we are the apex of God’s creation but all creation is sacred “Charged with the beauty of God” and destined to reach its own appropriate completeness, its own “Heaven”. We believe Jesus came to save the world, us included. To save = to bring to perfection, to completeness, to Heaven. Jesus is the WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE. To the degree I live as He did, I will be moving towards my personal completeness, Perfection, Heaven and will also be helping the rest of Creation to reach its own completeness, its “Heaven”. Jesus Christ is the secret to the way forward and upwards. Alleluia.

General Notices

Welcome to Advent Fourth Week

We are on the cusp of our Christmas celebration. The “WHY” of it is that God became one of us in Jesus. Thomas Merton monk and great spiritual writer tells how the wonder of this dawned on him in the middle of a busy shopping centre in Louisville Kentucky. “It is a glorious destiny to be a member of the human race, though it is a race dedicated to many absurdities, one that makes many terrible mistakes yet with all that God Himself gloried in becoming a  member of the human face and if only everybody could realise this! But it cannot be explained. There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shinning like the sun.

Crib Offerings 2016

This year with the encouragement of Archbishop Peter, this parish will be donating crib offerings to Friends of the Holy Land.  Every penny will help the poorest Christian families, especially in and around Bethlehem, the West Bank, Gaza and Israel, with education, employment, health and housing initiatives.  FHL is apolitical and ecumenical.  For further information, please take a look at the poster on the notice board and please keep our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land in your prayers at this time.

Thoughts for Reflection

Christ is the truth that all people need in order to find the right way to live in this world’s darkness, night, twilight, and fog. [...] This light of truth isn’t like a floodlight on an airport’s runway. Instead, it is like a lantern that throws light further ahead as we go forward. This truth [about Christ] gives us sufficient light to take the next step.  Cardinal Walter Kasper.

Jesus, through his human face, reflected his inner beauty at the same time as he expressed the perfect equilibrium of his human nature. He shone with the charm of all creatures to the point that all came to him. He appropriated nothing for himself, but freed each person from whatever had bound them. His glance penetrated all the way to the deepest depths, so that each person could envisage a new future. To cross his glance called for a transformation of the human glance, making it able to contemplate God, the Supreme Beauty, God in his Glory. Constant Tonnelierion.

Christmas Greetings

We celebrate at Christmas. We do so in different ways and levels. This is quite appropriate, so long as we remember the “WHY” of our celebration. The “WHY” is that in Jesus, God loves us unconditionally! He is with us, Emmanuel. He is one with us, in communion with us. As He is to us, we try to be to each other, to love as He does, to be with each other as He is with us, to be in communion with each other. To be merciful to each other as He is to us.

Our exchange of gifts, cards and greetings are to be an expression of God’s reaching out ad generous self-giving to us in giving to us in Jesus. Obviously, for Him the First Christmas was not just a one off giving. It was rather the human high point of His on-going desire to give Himself to us and so give us the experience of deep happiness, again not once a year but always. May our greetings to each other this Christmas be an earnest expression of our attitude towards each other now and for the future, so a  VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017.
