Church Repairs - Report

The gutters have been cleaned and sealed with pitumen and the exterior painted.
Asbestos downpipes have been replaced with good quality pipes not needing painting or maintenance.
That leaves the church windows to be attended to which will be quite expensive depending on what option is chosen.

The TWO TREES in the church grounds whose roots could undermine the church foundations and possibly also those of the nearest household in Bostall Park Avenue are being reviewed and looked at by the Parish Council. Should they be trimmed or removed. More information later.

Year of Mercy Banner

It has presently rolled up in the sacristy, but where to display it? The Parish council addressed the issue at the recent meeting. It was noted that the painting hanging in the porch was originally within the church on the back wall. If it was re-positioned there, THE YEAR OF MERCY banner (THE PRODICAL SON) could then be displayed in the porch where the painting now hangs. How this might be best negotiated is under consideration.

Praying for others in November

If ‘Purgatory’ is simply purification through fire IN THE ENCOUNTER WITH THE Lord, Judge and Saviour, how can a third person intervene, even if he or she is particularly close to the other? When we ask such a question, we should recall that no man is an island, entire of itself. Our lives are involved with one another, through innumerable interactions they are linked together. No one lives alone. No one sins alone, No one is saved alone. The lives of others continually spill over into mine: in what I think, say, do and achieve.  And conversely, my life spills over into that of others: for better and for worse. So my prayer for another is not something extraneous to that person, something external, not even after death. In the interconnectedness of Being, my gratitude to the other – can play a small part in his purification – It is never too late to touch the heart of anther.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

CAFOD Speaker
(Catholic Agency of Overseas Development)

Marina says a very sincere thank-you for her welcome to the parish and for the attention and generous response. Our thanks also to LAWERANCE - our parish CAFOD Rep.
What follows is a very brief resume of CAFOD’s engagement with problems of hunger, disease and injustice in so many locations.

CAFOD is the official international development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England & Wales, and is part of the Caritas International Federation, a worldwide network of Catholic development and relief organisations. It builds long-term partnerships with local organisations in more than 50 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, supporting them to build a better world for people living in extreme poverty, whatever their race, nationality or religion. It focuses on creating sustainable livelihoods, combating HIV and AIDS, and peace-building. In emergencies it provides immediate relief and support long-term programmes to rebuild people’s lives. CAFOD also works to persuade governments and institutions, in the UK and overseas, to change unjust policies that trap people in poverty.

Human Trafficking

For criminals it is now more lucrative than drug trafficking. The Medaille Trust was founded ten years ago in an attempt to respond to this scourge not put in far away places but right here at home.

The Vision

The Medaille Trust desires a world where the trafficking of human beings for sexual, economic and labour exploitation has been eradicated.

The Mission

The Medaille Trust is a charity founded by Catholic Religious Congregations to work for the eradication of human trafficking and to offer support to those who have been trafficked. Believing in the intrinsic dignity we provide safe housing and specialist services for rehabilitation and raise awareness of these modern forms of slavery.
For more information to go: www.medaille.co.uk.

A few copies of this booklet are available in the porch. Please help yourself.
