First Reading: (Hab 1:2-3;2:2-4): The prophet Habakkuk, appalled by the oppression and injustice of his time, cries to God for help. God promises help and asks the people not to lose faith in him.

Second Reading: (2 Tim 1:6-8, 13-140); Paul encourages Timothy to treasure the faith he has received and to pass it on intact.

The Gospel: (Lk 17:5-10): Jesus tells the apostles that for a person of faith what seems impossible becomes possible. He adds that faith is always achieved through help from God.

Responsorial Psalm: O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts.

Parish Faith and Culture Day
Our Celebration is on Sunday 16th October 2016

As we did last year, Mass will be at 11am.  The 9am mass will be cancelled.  Last year we had a great Parish day so hopefully it will be even better this year as we come together to celebrate our common Catholic Faith and our diverse cultures.  St John Paul II once said that faith which is not enculturated is no faith because it has not taken root in the people.  While our faith is common to us all, it finds different expressions in different cultures which are enriching for us all.  The Holy Spirit speaks in many languages.

The Evangelisation group met on Wednesday and planning is moving ahead for the BIG DAY. The message is “Let us all join in!” National dress, food, music, national hymns, bidding prayers in different languages, liturgical dance, drink, banner, national coloured bunting, bouncy castle,. Thinking caps on, share your ideas with Fr. John or come to the next meeting on Wednesday October 5th at the Presbytery at 19.30.

Thank you

Church Guttering & Down Pipes

The interior of the guttering has been repaired and the exterior decoration will follow shortly when the present down pipes are replaced. This is necessary because analysis has shown that they contain white and blue asbestos which makes their ongoing decoration hazardous. They will be replaced by good quality plastic pipes not needing decoration, so there is a saving there.

Year of Mercy Banner

It has presently rolled up in the sacristy, but where to display it? The Parish council addressed the issue at the recent meeting. It was noted that the painting hanging in the porch was originally within the church on the back wall. If it was re-positioned there, THE YEAR OF MERCY banner (THE PRODICAL SON) could then be displayed in the porch where the painting now hangs. How this might be best negotiated is under consideration.
