Year of mercy pilgrimage to aylesford

The meeting on Wednesday was very poorly attended. However, there was progress. Sunday August 14th is a very special day at Aylesford, the Feast of The Assumption of Our Lady is celebrated also it is the annual pilgrimage day of The Society of Our Lady of Lourdes. It is the day on which The Lourdes sick and handicapped group from our parish visits The Shrine. They have invited fellow parishioners, young and old to join them for the Year of Mercy. They will travel by the Bats mini-bus specially adapted for wheelchairs, etc. So anybody accepting their invitation will need to make their own travel arrangements. So why not share cars, as it may not be possible to travel in convoy and a meeting front will be arranged in the Shrine grounds. Please take a picnic lunch to be shared with the group in a designated area so a mini parish get-to-gather at The Shrine  in the Year of Mercy.  How appropriate!

The Tablet Magazine

There are five free copies in the porch, on a four week trial. Please take one before they are all gone. It is a weekly and highly recommended. Maybe you could give it a try for a year after sampling it.

Day for Life: Sunday 9th June

This year the Day of Life focuses on the wonder of the gift of human life and the gift of our common home which is God’s creation. It provides an opportunity for us to think about the connections and relationships between people and the earth which we inhabit. Today tragically, men, women and children are sometimes viewed as commodities which can be bought and sold. As Pope Francis has powerfully articulated in LAUDATO SI, there is a real need to rediscover a spirit of wonder and awe at the gift of human life so that all life may be properly respected and a new heart created for the home in which we live. This will be a helpful focus towards our reflections and teaching next year when we will remember the 50th anniversary of the Abortion Act in this country.  All parishioners are urged to support the crucial work of DAY FOR LIFE by their generosity to the collection which is taking place today. This enables the Church to fund the Anscombe Bioethics Centre (Formally the Linacre Centre), as well as projects which work to protect life at every stage and in every condition. Please visit and encourage others to visit www.dayforlife.orh and take the Day For Life card as you leave Mass.

Looking Forward

On the feast of St Thomas More, June 22nd, the school will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Archbishop Peter will celebrate the special Mass in hopefully the open air, depending on the weather of course. The Parish Mass will be cancelled so that parishioners can join in the celebration. I am sure many have many happy memories stretching back to their infant and primary school days. See you there.
