First Reading: (Acts 15:1-2, 22-29). As the church faces new situations she is guided by the Holy Spirit to make wise decisions that make her a more inclusive and welcoming community.

Second Reading: (Rev21:10-14, 22-23). John sees a vision of the People of God as a radiant city in which God dwells.

The Gospel: (Jn 14:23-29). At the Last Supper with his disciples Jesus is preparing them for his imminent departure but reminding them that they will never be abandoned.

Responsorial Psalm: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.

What is Faith?

Faith is not an idea, not a philosophy, not an ideology. Faith proceeds from a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, the Son of God made flesh. Once a person discovers the love of God in his or her life, he or she is not the same as before. A person who believes in the living and true God, Jesus Christ, and follows Him, is a special people. For them, traditional piety is the faith of the simple people, the faith that becomes life and culture. It is the special way a people has of living and expressing their relationship with God, with Our Lady, and with the Saints in a private and intimate atmosphere, but also, and especially, in the community.

Pope Francis in ‘Family and Life’

Morning Prayer

I arise today through
God’s strength to lead me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to secure me –
Against the snares of devils,
Against temptation of vices,
Against inclinations of nature,
Against everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and near, alone and in a crowd.
(St. Patrick)

Prayer is central

Dark Faith

Say what you want about peace or joy in believing: faith can be a dark experience. ‘Lord make yourself a little more real.’ Let’s admit it: faith is more shadow than light, at least in the typical journey of ordinary life. Yes, there are mountain moments, like the Transfiguration. There are times of silent fullness, of rest, grace, presence... the list is long. They give strength for the daily dullness, where faith can seem like a mist (Vatican 1), where loneliness of spirit takes over and emptiness reigns. This is not turmoil. Simply the vision is dim, tired, distant, and one has to wait for light from the mountain again.

Spirit in the City Festival
1 - 4th June 2016

We have the pleasure of inviting you to Spirit in the City, our annual evangelisation festival in the West End of London. From 1st to 4th June 2016, the Catholic faith communities across the diocese will join forces to offer a Catholic festival dedicated to evangelisation in our capital city: with times of prayer, teaching, celebration and outreach. The festival aims to bring Catholic together and to reach out to the general public at the same time. It gathers people of all cultures through a joyful and dynamic Catholic celebration of faith in the heart of London. We are particularly excited about the opening night in the Prince Charles Cinema where the UK premier of the “Full of Grace”, a new Catholic movie about Mary is to take place and the Saturday festival in Leicester Square Gardens.
