Sunday 11th October b_20_20

First Reading (Wis 7:7-11): True and authentic life can only be invoked and welcomed as a gift from God. To understand this is the Wisdom the is born of faith. We see how the young kind Solomon realised precisely this, and praised to God for that essential spirit of Wisdom.

Second Reading (Heb 4:12-13). The word of God, whose penetrating powers go right through to the depths of our secret thoughts and emotions, is that same Wisdom of God who came among us in the flesh.

Gospel (Mk 10:17-30). Jesus continues to set out the criteria of the kingdom, this Sunday in regard to some further basic human situations: namely wealth and ambition. He ‘looks steadily’ at the right man ‘and loves him’. He penetrates through to our hearts too, as we listen to his word. He confronts us with the truth as we read the Gospels.

Sunday 11th October Responsorial Psalm: Fill us with your love that we may rejoice.

October - The month of the holy rosary

Praying the Rosary during October is a traditional Catholic devotion. In praying it we are reflecting on the life of Jesus in the company of His Mother. St Luke in his gospel tells us that ‘Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature and in favour with God and with people’ Luke  ch 2.52. and this happened within a human family. So Jesus knows the blessing of family living. As we pray the Rosary over the coming weeks we ask that the Bishops and lay people at the Roman Synod on Family Life will be guided by The Holy Spirit of Jesus.

Our Parish & Culture Day Celebration

It was a great day in the life of our Parish Community. Lots of people took part and enjoyed being together celebrating their common faith and their particular cultures.

All comments received were very positive, with suggestions that the celebration should be an annual occasion in our parish diary. AMEN TO THAT I SAY!

Special thanks is due to our parish evangelisation group who conceived the idea and worked so willingly together to make it a reality.

We thank all who brought such a spread of very delicious foods. There was more than enough to feed the five thousand and Fr. John has since been living on the surplus which means that there may be some plates etc in his kitchen. Please knock on his door to collect.

Our church was beautifully decorated thanks to Ann and her co-workers.

Fr John regrets that because of his miscalculation the day’s banner was not larger. Kerry Treacy, a parishioner, did a great job with what she was given and our sincere thanks to her.

Parishioners remarked on how good it was to see on a display in the Hall the banners and cross, symbols of our two parish missioners. Our thanks also for the photographs of the past.  Last but not least a special thanks to our musicians and singers who added so much to the beauty and joy of the celebration of our Mass.

Hope nobody has been forgotten. If so remind Fr. John. Thanks again to all.

Sunday Mass Readers

Please, please collect your Scripture guide from the Sacristy, which covers Sundays from October to December. This pamphlet is very important as it gives a resume of the passages to be read which will enable readers to get an understanding of the text. This helps the reader to proclaim the message more confidently and with conviction.
