Sunday 30th August b_20_20

First Reading (Deut 4:1-2,6-8). Moses urges his community to obey the laws of the covenant in order to enjoy intimacy with their God and thus reveal to the pagans Israel’s humaneness and closeness to this God.

Second Reading (Jas 1:17-18,21-22,27). The author of James endorses practical, not theoretical Christian living. He exemplifies this by drawing attention to caring for orphans and widows.

Gospel (Mk 7:1-8,14-15,21-23). Mark presents Jesus’ attitude toward law. He insists on seeking the values in human legislation. Sin for Jesus means the human spirit gone wrong. One must distinguish between God’s commandments and purely human tradition.

Sunday 30th August Responsorial Psalm: LORD, WHO SHALL BE ADMITTED TO YOUR TENT?

  • Masonary: The Parish Council have agreed, following the consultation with two companies with the relevant masonry experience and who have submitted tenders for the work to the front of the church (high level copings & brickwork), to accept the tender from MDF Stone Restoration at the cost of £8,280.00.
  • When on a Summer's Morn: When on a summer’s morn I wake, and open my two eyes, Out to the clear, born-singing rills, My bird-lie spirit flies. To hear the Blackbird, Cuckoo, Thrush, or any bird in song; and common leaves that hum all day, without a throat or tongue. And when time strikes the hour for sleep, back in my room alone, my heart has many a sweet bird’s song – and one that’s all my own. (William Henry Davies, author of What is this life, if full of care...?)

We did enjoy his services very much. We still have Fr Savio, who is helping Fr John for another week. All masses are back to their normal time.

Mercy

Mercy is a work which springs from the goodness of God,  and it will continue to work until sin is no longer allowed to trouble faithful souls. When sin no longer has licence to pursue, then the work of mercy will cease. Then shall every soul be gathered into goodness and rest there forever. Under his  watchfulness we fall; by his blessed love and strength and wisdom we are defended; and through mercy and through grace we are lifted up to many joys.
