First Reading (Ex 16:2-4, 12-15): Having rescued the Israelites from slavery and led them into the wilderness, the Lord provides them with food for their journey.

Gospel (Jn 6:24-35): Jesus urges the crowds, impressed by his giving them food on the previous day, to see beyond this sign and work for the food of true life, which is himself, received by faith.

Sunday 2nd August: The Lord gave them bread from heaven.

Little Things Matter

One tree can start a forest
One sunbeam lights a room
One bird can herald spring
One smile begins a friendship
One handclasp lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One candle wipes out darkness
One vote can change a nation
One laugh will lift sadness
One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show care
One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true
One life can make the difference

You see it’s up to you! Don’t forget how very important YOU ARE.

Love

Do not be hesitate to love and to love deeply. You might be afraid of the pain that deep love can cause. When those you love deeply reject you, leave you, or die, your heart will be broken. But that should not hold you back from loving deeply.  The pain that comes from deep love makes your love ever more faithful. It is like a plough that breaks the ground to allow the seed to take root and grow into a strong plant. Every time you experience the pain of rejection, absence, or death, you are faced with a choice. You can become bitter and decide not to love again, or you can stand straight in your pain and let the soil on which you stand become richer and more able to give life to new seeds. The more you have loved and have allowed yourself to suffer because of your love, the more you will be able to let your heart grow wider and deeper. Henri Nouwen – The Inner voice of love.

Parish Faith & Culture Day - Sunday 4th October 2015

The Evangelisation group have met and finalised our Banner for the occasion. We like very much to impose FACES reflecting the diversity of our parish community. Your permission is obviously  required, so this weekend and the next you are invited to volunteer  a face photo which will then be imposed on our banner in miniature form. Thank you and don’t be shy.

August 15th
National Thank Giving Mass for the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero

The Romero Trust, in conjunction with St. George’s Cathedral Southwark, is organising a Mass at 12.30pm. It is hoped Cardinal Cormac will preside and Bishop John Rawsthorne preach. The Mass will be followed by a reception event in the Amigo Hall. It is an especially appropriate date as it is the 98th birthday of Archbishop Romero and St George’s has his relic inside the Romero Cross erected there in 2013. Everyone is welcome.

A Gardener's Reflection

First look at the weeds, weed out gossip, weed out laziness, weed out indifference and weed out pride.
Plant five rows of peas: patience, peace, promptness, politeness and prayer.
Then plant five rows of lettuce:
Let us be faithful.
Let us be loving,
Let us be useful,
Let us be trustful and let us be grateful.
Then we can turn to the reliable turnips.
Turn up on time
Turn up with a smile
Turn up with a new idea

And turn up with new determination.
