First Reading (Ex 24:3-8). The solemn covenant at Sinai between God and his people is sealed with blood – anticipating God’s final covenant sealed in the blood of his Son.

Second Reading (Heb 9:11-15)The self-offering of Jesus, though made on earth, is a heavenly reality. He goes before us and leads us to God.

Gospel (Mk 14:12-16, 22-26) The last Supper helps us to understand the meaning of Jesus’ death on Calvary.

Sunday 7th June: The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord’s name

  • Welcome: There is still a lot of room on the display area for expressions of the word WELCOME in our different national languages and cultures. So do ‘post’ yours, indicating which it is. By the way thanks for the new arrivals.
  • Lesness Abbey: The annual Lesness Abbey Procession of the Blessed Sacrament takes place on 28th June 2015. Gather at 15:00. See poster in porch for more details.
  • Note: There will be a second collection next Sunday for Catholic Trust for England & Wales (CaTEW): This trust (formerly the national Catholic Fund) supports the legal, financial and charitable activities of the Bishops’ Conference, its departments, agencies and offices. This collection helps supply the Bishops of England and Wales with the revenue necessary for the central administration of the Church in this country.

To live by faith means to put our lives in the hands of God, especially, in our most difficult moments. Pope Francis.

General Notices

Corpus Christi

We celebrate the feast today, it is above all a celebration of joy and thanks giving for the abiding presence of Jesus with us. Having given his life for us at Calvary, he wanted to be able to continue to be with us. To be able to give his life to us in the ups and downs of our daily lives. He does so in the Eucharist as he says to us, ‘take and eat, this is my body, take and drink this is my blood’. The Eucharist is the visible, indeed the tangible sign of his presence with us.

Our Bidding Prayers

Under the heading ‘sick and housebound’ we pray for many people some of whom are not known to Fr. John. He fears we may be praying for people who may have died. So as from next Sunday, names unknown to him will be removed. So please, please put him in the picture about people you wish to be prayed for so that they can be included in the prayer list.  Thank-you.

St Vincent De Paul Society - St John Bosco Centre
Children's Summer Holiday Camp, Aldham, Essex

Bookings have now started for the St John Bosco boys’ and girls’ camps. The St Vincent De Paul Society has been running the camp for the Catholic children for more than sixty years.

The boy’s camp runs for two weeks, during the summer holidays from 25th July to 8th August and the girls camp runs for one week from 8th August to 15th August. Please note that boys’ camp age range is 8 to 13 while the girls’ is 9 to 12. Children are accepted for one week only. We cater for around 140 children per week.

This is a camp holiday which has an enormous range of activities for the children to enjoy, such as mountain biking, boating, fishing, climbing, swimming, orienteering, nature study, art and craft, to name but a few. The week’s break is packed full of activities from the moment the children get up each day to the time of going to bed. These are of course included in the price and all the recreation equipment such as bikes and fishing rods are provided. All the activities take place on the 43 acres site, except for one swimming session that takes place at a local leisure pool. All activities are well supervised.

All helpers have been carefully vetted by way of references, and enhanced CRB or DBS checks. Several of the volunteers are teachers and youth workers and so have a vast wealth of experience of working with and looking after children. A senior helper and assistant are allocated to look after the needs of each tent. Any parents who are interested please see Fr John who has been there and also for further details of costs etc.
