First Reading (Acts 2:1-11). The Spirit of God seizes on the apostles and sends them on their mission. This scene marks the beginning f the church.

Second Reading (1 Cor. 12:3-7, 12-13). Through his Spirit Jesus works in the community in different ways according to the God-given gifts of each one.

Gospel (John 20:19-23). The Spirit of life is given to the disciples for their mission. They continue the life-giving mission of Jesus.

Sunday 24th May: Responsorial Psalm:  Send forth your Spirit, O Lord, and renew the face of the earth.

The Month of May is the month of MARY so in her honour we have our
May procession and we are encouraged to pray the ROSARY.

  • Newsletter Attachment: It gives further information about the Sick & Retired Priests Fund. At this stage there is absolutely no financial commitment involved for anybody.

Our parish - Our School
50 Years of St. Thomas More

Heritage Day exceeded all expectations! Over 170 people came to the day. It is a big thank you to staff, both past and present, past pupils, family members of both past and present pupils, parishioners, items of memorabilia (including uniform, school reports, and work books) and memories to sort through and collate. These will be added into the archive helping to build the school history. We congratulate the pupils of the Heritage group who did such an excellent running the day as well as the adult volunteers who helped with the Heritage Group both at Bexley Borough Archives and with Heritage Day.

If you could not make the event but would still like to contribute please phone the school office on 02083038322 or email: stm.hlfpm@yahoo.co.uk; and leave a message and daytime contact details for Andy Wansbury the Project manager who will contact you to arrange a convenient appointment for you to share your experiences.

National Campaign to empty unopened Red Boxes

The Mill Hill Misionaries and Missio are planning to celebrate all that the Red Box achieves thanks to the generous and prayerful support of so many Catholics across England & Wales. They want to raise awareness of the work of missionaries which is enabled thanks to the generous support of Missio’s APF and Mill Hill Missionaries worldwide. They want to celebrate the legacy of the may British and Irish missionaries over the years.
To achieve the greatest impact they are encouraging people to have their unopened Red Boxes emptied focussing on two weekends: 20-21 and 27-28June 2015.
Our parish representative Helen Ratcliff thanks all of you who recently took the Red Box and will contact you to let you know the collection arrangements.

For those to have had a Red Box for a number of years, she requests that you bring it to the presbytery or wait for your promoter to call at your home. These boxes need to be returned by the end of May, so that the collection can be sent to Missio.

Parish Evangelisation

A group of eight parishioners met on Thursday with Fr. John. We prayed asking the Holy Spirit to guide us in our searching, how as a parish we might best respond to Pope Francis’ ‘burning desire’ for all parishes to be Missionary in spirit, so that we can share the joy of Jesus Christ with people within and beyond the boundaries of our parish. This privilege and task is there for each of us. We meet again on Thursday May 28th at 20.00 in the presbytery to see how we as parishioners, so diverse in many ways, might become more conscious of each other, thus enriching our parish with the many gifts God has given to us. Do feel free to join us with your unique contribution.

Christians and Persecutions

According to the United Nations Christians belong to the most persecuted people on earth. John Allen of the  Boston Globe reports that being a christian has cost an  average of one hundred thousand  Christians’ their lives every year since 2010. So being  Christian  is very  dangerous especially in Iraq and Syria and elsewhere. Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador will be beatified on Saturday May 23rd. He was murdered by a government sniper as he celebrated mass in the chapel of a cancer hospital where he lived and all because he stood up for the poor and marginalised of his country. In other words for being Christian.
