Sunday 26th April - Fourth Sunday of Easter b_20_20

First Reading (Acts 4:8-12).  We hear Peter’s speech to the Sanhedrin after he and John have healed a lame man at the Temple gate and they have been brought before the same judges that condemned Jesus.

Second Reading (1 John 3:1-2). It tells us that we are God’s children and it speaks of the mystery that we still face when we speak of the life to come.

Gospel (John 10:11-18). The Good Shepherd. Jesus compares himself to the good shepherd, contrasts his care for the sheep with the disinterest shown by the hired man. He speaks of other sheep that he has yet to lead, and of his freedom in giving his life.

Election Fever

It is raging. They are at it full pelt. Each party trying to catch your vote. Yes, we must vote, each of us, how is our choice. Some weeks ago our Bishops in a letter raised concerns that we need to consider when voting and raise with prospective MPs. The NHS naturally has come up. Trident (see last week’s N/L). Difficult to keep oneself informed. Very recently Ed Miliband said that a future Labour government would introduce a profits cap on private health companies for NHS contracts worth more than £500,000. For are insight into the world of private companies providing public services read the revealing article in the porch taken from the tablet of last week.
