Sunday 19th April - Third Sunday of Easter b_20_20

First Reading (Acts 3:13-15. 17-19)  This Sunday, we listen to Peter addressing the Jews after Pentecost. He is a witness to the resurrection of Jesus, whom they had killed. Of course, they did not realise what they were really doing. Now, they should turn back to their Father God, and their sins would be forgiven.

Second Reading (1 John 2:1-5) Jesus Christ takes away the sins of the whole world. The test of really knowing and loving God is that of keeping his commandments.

Gospel (Luke 24:35-48):  Jesus proves that it is really himself who is present among the disciples by showing them his body and eating with them. His resurrection fulfils all the Scriptures. As witnesses, they should now preach repentance to all peoples, so that their sins may be forgiven.

Sunday 19th April: Responsorial Psalm:  Lift up the light of your face on us, O Lord.

  • Parish Council Meeting: Next meeting in the presbytery at 8.00pm on Thursday April 23rd.
  • St Thomas More Club - St. George's Dance Night, 25th April: At 8.00pm to late. £7.50 per person including a jumbo sausage and chip supper. Lager & Bitter at £1.50. Music by James Dee. For more details contact Bob on 02083047909.

St Thomas More Primary School, Bexleyheath

St Thomas More Primary School, Bexleyheath is calling all past pupils and their families, former staff, and anyone who has been involved with the school, to help celebrate the School’s 50th Anniversary. The school is creating a history of the school: they need your help to do it! On 23rd April between 15.30 and 17.00 they are holding a Heritage Day where they want you to come to the school and bring your photos, memories and mementos of life at St Thomas More and share them with them, helping to create the school’s history. When they have built the history they will be sharing it with the wider community through Bexley Borough Archives. If you want to know more about the event or would like to contribute but cannot make the event please contact the Project Manager by email at stm.hlfpm@yahoo.co.uk. Or phone the school 02083038322 and leave a message (with a daytime contact number, if possible) for the project manager who will then contact you.

Marriage and Family life Reflections

Those who celebrate the sacrament say, “I promise to be true to you, in joy and in sadness, in sickness and in health; I will love you and honour you all the days of my life.” At that moment, the couple does not know what will happen, mor what joys and pains await them. They are setting out, like Abraham, on a journey together. And that is what marriage is! Setting out and walking together, hand in hand, putting yourselves in the Lord’s powerful hands. Hand in hand, always and for the rest of your lives. And do not pay attention to this makeshift culture, which can shatter our lives.

How can we better understand marriage as a vocation?

Today, there are those who say that marriage is out of fashion... They say that it is not worth making a lifelong commitment, making a definitive decision, ‘forever’, because we do not know what tomorrow will bring.

How does your marriage enrich you?

Renewal of Trident

As leaders of faith communities in Britain we believe that one significant contribution to a safer world is the abolition of nuclear weapons..... Our faith traditions reject the notion that reliance on the threat of mass destruction could ever be right..... Trident: Church leaders’ letter to The Times, September 2014.
