First Reading (2 Chron. 36:14-16, 19-23) – Looking back on the history of his people, the writer concludes that the nation that abandons its God cannot hope to escape his judgement and punishment. But because God is full of forgiveness and mercy, the nation will be saved after its punishment.

Second Reading (Eph.2:4-10) – We are saved because of God’s tender mercy towards us, and not due to any merits of our own.

Gospel (Jn. 3:14-21) – God’s great love for the world is shown by his sending his Son to save us.

Introducing theMedaille Trust

Medaille Trust was founded in 2006 by a number of religious Orders and congregations in response to the plight of thousands of people who are being trafficked into the UK each year. The Trust was established as a charity and opened its first safe house in January 2007. A major part of the Trust’s work is to raise awareness of the plight of those who are enslaved and exploited in the trafficking industry, and campaign on their behalf.

The charity does this by providing safe housing and support for victims of human trafficking at six safe houses across the UK. Four of these properties have most generously been donated by Religious. The organisation also raises awareness of human trafficking through the publication of a magazine and carrying out talks at schools, universities, churches and to a variety of faith groups.

The Medaille Trust has been greatly pleased and encouraged to her of the Holy Father’s great interest in the fight against trafficking and his call for action. It is most fortunate that this inspirational leadership from Rome comes at a time when we have launched a most exciting project. The main objective of the project is a team of Diocesan Representatives who will engage with the Catholic congregations and communities in the UK to raise awareness, educate individuals and hopefully raise funds for victims in the UK.

PS: If any parishioner would like to get involved in any way in the above work being done by the Trust, please contact Di Killian  - Diocesan Representative email: or telephone: 07940435708. Or if any of you have any thoughts about  what we might do at a parish level, please see Fr. John.

It has been raining since early morning. I have been forced to stay indoors, meditating on the shortcoming of life. Our competitive world has made people selfish and uncaring. I have made up my mind to do something about it. I cannot hope to convert all those people. I’d be happy if I could convert even one person. I will begin with the period I know best – MYSELF.

But where shall I begin? Let me see. I know that I am lazy and selfish, vain, proud and unforgiving. I could be kinder, gentler and more considerate. But what’s this? I don’t believe it. It’s just stopped raining. So I can go outdoors again. I need some fresh air. I’ll go for a long walk. I can reform myself tomorrow that is, providing it’s raining, and I’m forced to stay indoors, meditating on the shortcoming of life. Printed with the kind permission of the late Canon John Lennon. I am sure he would be very happy if we use this reflection in a personal way, during the reminder of Lent.

The homosexual Child

Nobody mentioned homosexual marriage at the synod; it did not cross our minds. What we did talk about was of how a family with a homosexual child, whether a son or a daughter, goes about educating that child, how the family bears up, how to help that family to deal with that somewhat unusual situation. That is to say, the synod addressed the family and the homosexual persons in relation to their families, because we come across this reality all the time in the confessional: a father and a mother whose son or daughter is in that situation. This happened to me several times in Buenos Aires. We have to find a way to help that father or that mother to stand by (accompanar) their son or daughter. Pope Francis, Interview with Latin American newspaper, December 2014.

Lent Banners

They are blank inviting us to express in words or art what LENT means for each of us. What is my word? What is your art?

Thank you
